Herdsman Group – Old Post Street

The group of statues known as “The Herdsman Group” (“Hirtengruppe”) consists of three cows, a calf and a herdsman with a dog and a drinking trough. The statues, designed by Siegerland artist Wolfgang Kreutter, are cast in bronze and show a scene typical of Siegen and outlying areas in bygone days. They pay tribute to the three herding collectives (of the Kölner-, Löhr and Marburger Streets) which used to exist inside the city walls and whose cattle were driven daily into the countryside surrounding Siegen by herdsmen. The group of statues, 20 m long, was officially inaugurated on November 24th 1983.
